An LGBTQ+ proofreader for your LGBTQ+ novel
Finding the perfect proofreader for your LGBTQ+ novel can be stressful. As an LGBTQ+ proofreader, I want you to be as comfortable as possible when working with me.
How I work as an LGBTQ+ proofreader
Hi, I’m H, and I’m a queer non-binary proofreader. Working on LGBTQ+ stories means I get to read more queer fiction and aid in getting more queer representation out there.
I offer a specific LGBTQ+ proofreading service to authors so you can be comfortable and confident in working with me. I strive to support the queer community as much as possible, so if you have any questions or concerns please get in touch.
My LGBTQ+ proofreading services only differ from my usual fiction proofreading services in how I’ll look out for pronoun usage and consistency. There’s no extra cost involved.
How proofreading fits into self-publishing an LGBTQ+ novel
LGBTQ+ fiction comes in all kinds of forms, like gay romance, coming of age, queer fantasy, MM romance, reverse harem, why choose, and more.
When self-publishing, proofreading is the last step before publishing. Once your novel has been formatted, a proofreader then reads through the text multiple times to catch any spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors, as well as checking formatting and consistency.
Ideally, you’ll want to schedule a formatter and proofreader in advance so you don’t have to worry about availability or deadlines.
What else do you need proofreading for?
Even if you’re not working on a novel, I can help you.
You may need proofreading before you submit to queer lit magazines, LGBTQ+ themed writing competitions, and anthologies. While an editor will make more changes to your text, a proofreader keeps your story how it is, just improving it by spotting errors before you submit.
I’ll keep your words how they are on the page, and you have complete control of whether or not to make changes I suggest.
Why I’m the best LGBTQ+ proofreader for you
Having an LGBTQ+ proofreader can make you feel more comfortable, especially if gender-neutral pronouns are used. As a non-binary person, I’m conscious of gender-neutral pronouns, including neo-pronouns, and their impact.
I want every LGBTQ+ author to succeed with their books, so if I can help, I will. Whether that’s recommending other services, providing resources, or being your cheerleader.
If you don’t identify as LGBTQ+ but you’re writing queer fiction, I want to work with you too! I can also provide a free sensitivity reading for short fiction involving queer and non-binary characters.
Still considering your options? Here’s my advice on how to find the best proofreader for your novel.
