Romance proofreading for the romantic

What romance proofreading catches:

  • spelling mistakes, typos, and inconsistencies
  • missing, incorrect, and inconsistent punctuation
  • problems with the formatting and layout

As a romance proofreader, I want your story to be enjoyed without any distracting errors

Spelling mistakes and punctuation errors can distract readers from your story. If you haven’t worked with a professional editor or proofreader, the chances of reviews marking you down for these mistakes rises. As your proofreader, I support you to publish error-free books.

How we can work together

Step 1: Enquiry

An enquiry helps me work out if we can work together, based on the information you share with me.

Knowing the following things ahead of time is always useful on my end:

  • what your book is about
  • how long your book is
  • when you expect to schedule in proofreading
  • and your approximate budget

You can also ask for a free sample proofread, so you can check if my style of proofreading suits you.

Step 2: Scheduling

Once we’ve decided to work together, I’ll send you a quote based on the information you’ve already told me.

We’ll schedule in a delivery date for you to send me the PDF or Word Doc, as well as a deadline for me to send you the finished proof.

For PDFs, proofreading is done using commenting tools. For Word Docs, proofreading is done using Track Changes.

A deposit of 25% or 50% will be requested before I begin work.

Step 3: Delivery

Once it’s time to send me your book, make sure you send it via email either as an attachment or with a secure link. You can use Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar services for big files.

If you don’t send it on time, I cannot guarantee to make the deadline. You’re welcome to send the file early.

Once I’ve finished my work, I’ll send the final proof as an email attachment or using a secure Proton or Google Drive link.

You’ll then be invoiced for the work done.

My romance proofreading services

If it’s written, I can proofread it. I work with all kinds of romance fiction, including short stories, novellas, full-length novels, and sagas. I’m especially keen to work on fantasy romance, LGBTQ+ romance, YA romance, and erotic fiction.

Am I the romance proofreader for you?

As an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, I strive to meet their standards and abide by their Code of Practice.

I work with UK English and use reference guides such as New Hart’s Rules, the New Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors, and New Oxford Spelling Dictionary.

Everything I work on is confidential and I do not disclose what I’ve worked on without permission from the author or publisher. I use best practices for security, and on receiving payment I delete all copies of your work.

  • Han made the process very easy for me – by clarifying what I had to look at and could ignore in the markup of the manuscript. By asking for clarity of my intent in a few instances, Han was able to reduce the number of edits and comments in the document significantly, which I appreciated.

I would recommend Han to any author preparing a manuscript for submission, or to anyone who wants to ensure their writing has been professionally proofread.

  • H Noss has brought me closer to my dream. My first novel was published in German. H Noss’s job was to improve and correct the book from German to English. H Noss is a unique person: supportive, friendly and very professional. I really enjoyed working with H Noss because I had bad experiences with proofreaders in the German-speaking world. H Noss was a surprise and I am delighted.
